If you are planning a summer getaway to the Costa del Sol, prepare for daytime temperatures over 30 ºC and long, warm evenings.

Five ways to keep cool during summer on the Costa del Sol include:

Marbella beaches

Marbella and Puerto Banus boast some of the best beaches in Spain, and wherever you are staying on the Costa del Sol you won´t be far from a long, golden stretch of sand where you can hang out with your friends and family, and enjoy fantastic sea temperatures of around 23ºC. Keeping cool in the Mediterranean is one of the most popular summer pastimes on the Costa, and you will be spoilt for choice when it comes to safe, sandy beaches in Marbella.

River Swimming in Benahavis

Three rivers cross Benahavis, between San Pedro and Estepona, and all have sources in the Ronda mountain range, working their way down to the Mediterranean. The Rio Guadalmina is 28km long and runs along the east of the village, also serving as a generator for flour mills in the area. The Rio Guadalmansa runs from north to south to the east of the village, and the Rio Guadaiza is just over 22km long and runs to the left of the Ronda Road, passing in front of the Daidin Ruins.

Benahavis properties for sale include townhouses, new developments, apartments, resales and villas.

Water sports

If you enjoy water sports you will be spoilt for choice on the Costa del Sol. All main beaches in Marbella, Fuengirola, Puerto Banus, Benalmadena, Torremolinos, Malaga, Puerto Cabopino, and Estepona offer a wide range of water sports, including water skiing, para-sailing, kite surfing, wind surfing, donuts and bananas. You can also enjoy life on the ocean wave by taking a dolphin trip or fishing trip from Benalmadena Marina, Puerto Banus Marina, Marbella or Cabopino.

Early morning walks

If you enjoy a stroll down the seafront, the best time to walk along Marbella seafront is early morning. The coolest time of day in July and August is between 6 and 8am, and although you may not want to get up so early on holiday, if you fancy some gentle exercise before the crowds hit the beach, this is the time to do it. You may of course still be out, in which case, you can kill two birds with one stone!

Make sure your air con is well maintained

As silly as it may sound, if you spend quite a lot of your time indoors during the summer, or if you work from home, now is the time to make sure your air conditioning is fully functioning. Have your air conditioning serviced once a year and the filters cleaned. Often, a simple clean will keep your air con blasting out at the correct temperature and it will be well worth the effort.

Keep cool, keep your sun tan lotion close at hand, and keep out of the sun at the hottest time of day, between 12 midday and 4pm. There are plenty of shady areas on the beach, so chill out relax, and have a great time.
